... but the tahoe make run should have barked about missing pyopenssl, don't you think? same for pywin32, if necessary for cygwin (maybe not)

Yes, it should! Also since I just tweaked trac's configuration, this added comment should appear in the timeline, even though I'm not opening/closing this ticket.

I'm writing a "make dependencies" makefile target that checks the installed versions of all required libraries and errors out if high enough versions aren't installed.
